An Olive Garden in the Das Tyrol Hotel, Vienna, Austria

Olive Green has been in the Crayola collection from the beginning in 1903. In the “State Crayon Collection” it is the color for Puerto Rico and is called Coqui Green!

My photo for Olive Green was taken at the Das Tyrol Hotel in Vienna, Austria. Don’t you just love this color with the orange walls? I did.  I called it my Olive Garden! This 4 star, spa hotel was so relaxing after a day traipsing through the city! For a peek of this beautiful boutique hotel look HERE!

These ladies were showing off their vibrant Neon Carrot colored clothing in the waters of the Japanese Garden in the Montreal Botanical Garden.

The Montreal Botanical Garden, opened in 1931, is a large botanical garden in Montreal, Quebec, Canada comprising 185 acres of themed gardens and greenhouses. It was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 2008, as it is considered to be one of the most important botanical gardens in the world due to the extent of its collections and facilities.

Neon Carrot is the fluorescent color introduced by Crayola in 1990. It is known as Fiery Orange in Europe and On-Line Orange in the “Techno Brite” series.

Color Your World: 120 Days of Crayola; Midnight Blue

Hand Painted Italian Plate

Ceramiche Sberna Handmade Italian Plate

Prussian Blue has been in the Crayola Collection since 1903, so it was one of the first colors. In 1958 the name was changed to Midnight Blue. In the “Halloween Crayon” series it was known as Midnight Gloom!   Halloween Crayons?  Who knew?

This is my hand made “Dipinto a Mano” plate from Italy. I went to Italian language school in Montepulciano, Italy and walked by a tiny shop filled with exquisite ceramics and pottery at least 4 times a day. Finally, before I left, I went in and with my newly practised Italian, bought several pieces of the ceramics. I had it all shipped home since I was heading elsewhere in Italy and could not have carried it around with me. It would have been Midnight Gloom and more, if the pieces had arrived broken! As it was, they arrived safe and sound and are the pride of my dining room! I love all the colors on it, but especially the very dark blue!

“Dipinto a Mano” ceramics are made in Deruta, a small town in the heart of Umbria, and world known for its production of fine ceramic art and pottery. The craft was established there in the Middle Ages, but was renown during the Renaissance. Today hand crafted ceramics is still the primary work of the citizens of Deruta. Francesco Sberna, a master craftsman opened his workshop in 1959 and is now the most important ceramic producer of the town. The Ceramiche Sberna, which I own, were created with forms and designs inspired by local tradition with detailed research into color and pattern. I have never seen another pattern like mine!

Here are more pictures taken in the town of Montepulciano.

Here is more about the language school, Il Sasso.

Color Your World: 120 Days of Color; Melon

Bloomington Bloomsbury

Bloomington Bloomsbury

The color Melon has been in the Crayola lineup since 1958.  It is also known as Sweet Georgia Peach and represents Georgia in the “State Color Collection.”

Isn’t it a cheerful color? I think it says a lot about the owner. They are upbeat, lively, and not afraid of what the world thinks.

My photo was taken in Bloomington, Indiana, home of Indiana University. This is a small neighborhood of pastel, craftsman type houses that is a joy to walk in, due to their quirky colors, artistically decorated yards, and large flower and/or vegetable gardens. In my mind the Bloomington neighborhood would have fit right in with the Bloomsbury Group, a gifted group of men and women, who set out to change the world with their contemporary thinking and love of art. For more on the Bloomsburys’ see my previous post HERE. Just another day in a beautiful neighborhood!

Color Your World: 120 Days of Crayola; Mauvelous

MY Mauvelous Coneflower

MY Mauvelous Coneflower with a Bee

Mauvelous has been in the Crayola Collection since 1993. It is known as Tropical Reef Mauve in the “Discovery” series.

I love my mauvelous coneflowers in my garden!

Something else that I discovered that I think is Mauvelous is, The Crayon Initiative. Have you ever been to a restaurant where the children are given crayons to color with? Do you know that after your child leaves the crayons are thrown out? What about all the broken crayons at school?  What happens to those? Well, The Crayon Initiative gathers up all those unwanted crayons, remelts them, and shapes then into fatter crayons to be given out at hospitals. What a great idea! Please read all about it if you would like to participate in The Crayon Initiative! Here is a Poster  about the life of a restaurant crayon!

IPhriday Photo Challenge: Painted Benches

Painted in Brushstroke

There used to be several painted benches around the two block Main Street of my town. Now since I have been getting out and exploring for the IPhriday Photo Challenge I see the painted benches are being replaced with wrought-iron benches with dedication markers. I went looking for the “LOVE” bench for a Valentine Post only to see it had been replaced. I got as far as Ben & Jerry’s before I saw the last two remaining painted benches hugging the exterior of the ice cream shop. It was as if they were saying,”no, don’t take us too!” So I thought I’d better get a quick photo snap before they are gone! The Good Ol Days are quickly being gobbled up!

As usual I painted my photo in the Waterlogue App and in Brushstroke, since they are my favorite IPhone Photo Apps! I’ll use the Waterlogue design photo for my notecard!

Enjoy the IPhriday Photo Challenge! Post a photo taken with your Phone on Fridays! It has been a lot of fun!

Color Your World: 120 Days of Crayola: Maroon

  • Chateau de la Rochepot, France

My photo shows the door of the moat drawbridge at the Chateau de la Rochepot, in  Burgundy, France. For more pictures of the chateau look HERE.

Color Your World: 120 Days of Crayola; Mango Tango

The Mango Tango Colored House

The Mango Tango Colored House

The color Mango Tango has been in the Crayola lineup since 2003. The Tango is a dramatic, romantic, partner dance that every woman I know would love to dance to. With the right man of course! The Tango dance is so lively, sexy, and over the top. The word tango is related to the African slave word “Tango” (a drum or dance place)

So for my photo for this week’s challenge we are back in New Orleans. Mango Tango in its glory! I am sure the couple that lives here would dance to the Tango!
