There used to be several painted benches around the two block Main Street of my town. Now since I have been getting out and exploring for the IPhriday Photo Challenge I see the painted benches are being replaced with wrought-iron benches with dedication markers. I went looking for the “LOVE” bench for a Valentine Post only to see it had been replaced. I got as far as Ben & Jerry’s before I saw the last two remaining painted benches hugging the exterior of the ice cream shop. It was as if they were saying,”no, don’t take us too!” So I thought I’d better get a quick photo snap before they are gone! The Good Ol Days are quickly being gobbled up!

As usual I painted my photo in the Waterlogue App and in Brushstroke, since they are my favorite IPhone Photo Apps! I’ll use the Waterlogue design photo for my notecard!

Color Your World: 120 Days of Crayola: Maroon

Maroon is the name given to Dark Red, in the Crayola series since 1958. It is known as Megahertz Maroon in the “Techno Brite” series and Rockets’ Red Glare in the “Colors of Washington, DC” series and Williamsburgundy, for the color to represent Virginia in the “State Color Collection.”

My photo shows the door of the moat drawbridge at the Chateau de la Rochepot, in Burgundy, France. For more pictures of the chateau look HERE.

Color Your World: 120 Days of Crayola; Mango Tango

The Mango Tango Colored House

The color Mango Tango has been in the Crayola lineup since 2003. The Tango is a dramatic, romantic, partner dance that every woman I know would love to dance to. With the right man of course! The Tango dance is so lively, sexy, and over the top. The word tango is related to the African slave word “Tango” (a drum or dance place)

So for my photo for this week’s challenge we are back in New Orleans. Mango Tango in its glory! I am sure the couple that lives here would dance to the Tango!

Color Your World: 120 Days of Crayola; Manatee

Gardener’s Cottage at Ashford Castle, Ireland

I have never seen a Manatee. But, I do know it is also called a sea cow.

Since I don’t have a photo of the Manatee, here is the lovely gardener’s cottage at Ashford Castle in Ireland. Instead of having a Manatee, you could have a Cup a Tea here! It has a nice shade of gray in the stone, plaster, and shingles, and I loved the trim of green! Green and Gray for Ireland!

Crayola added Manatee, the grayish color, to their line in 1998.

Coffee Concoction in Prague

Here is a spirited mahogany colored cup of coffee on a mahogany colored table, if I do say so myself! I enjoyed this coffee drink in Prague!

Mahogany, a reddish brown color, has been in the Crayola assortment since 1949. In the “State Crayon Collection” it is known as Tennesienna, to represent Tennessee.

Ready For Spring!

Ready for Spring, Painted in the Waterlogue App

Look at this bounty of color! To celebrate Milton Bradley’s collaboration with Crayola I also added the photo painted in the IPhone Waterlogue App!

Magenta, the rosy pink color, was added to the Crayola line, in 1903, as one of their first colors.

In 1907 Binney & Smith partnered with Milton Bradley to produce the Crayola # 77 assortment with the Milton Bradley label printed on the box. Who is Milton Bradley you ask? Milton Bradley was interested in art education, which led him to produce a new color wheel and publish four books about teaching color. He also introduced the first standardized watercolor sets. He founded a company in 1860 for the production of American board games, which eventually included the games; The Game of Life, Candy Land, Operation, and Battleship. Who hasn’t played at least one of those games? I found his life so interesting look for a future post about him!

Color Your World: 120 Days of Crayola; Macaroni and Cheese

Macaroni and Cheese

Macaroni and Cheese, Macaroni & Cheese, and Macaroni n Cheese have been in the Crayola Collection since 1993. I am surprised The Hallmark Company decided on this name since Crayola had discontinued some colors in the past because children were eating the crayons, like Blueberry Pie and Chocolate, although those crayons also had yummy smells to go along with the yummy color. But, I can tell you one thing from experience. Most children, even the picky eaters, love their Macaroni and Cheese! My youngest would eat it for every meal if it was offered. She is now 43 and would still eat it for every meal! That dark yellow orangey colored (and cheapest) macaroni was her all time favorite. It is all about comfort food!

Color Your World: 120 Days of Crayola; Lavender (I Can’t Help It) Again

The Lavender of Le Crestet, Provence, France

You can never get enough Lavender I say! Here is another photo of Lavender, this time the real thing taken in a village in Le Crestet, France! High on a hilltop the bees were swarming this magnificent plant. You could hear the buzzing long before reaching it! What is more relaxing than the fragrance of Lavender?

Lavender 1 was part of Crayola assortment from 1949 to 1958.

Lavender 2 has been produced since 1958. It is also known as Plum Purple in the second “So Big” set, and as both Saturn’s Ring and Starfish Lavender in the “Discovery” series. More great colors from Crayola!

IPhriday Photo Challenge: My Pastel Neighborhood

I live in a pastel neighborhood. All the cottages are painted like Easter Eggs, except for two colors, which are allowed. Yes, we have to get permission to change our cottage colors! Anyway, the exception to the pastels are Navy Blue and Periwinkle, a lightish purple color.

I love using some of the IPhone Apps to change the way my pictures look. I use some of my photos to make greeting or note cards. This photo, taken in January, turned out especially well for the look I wanted for my notecards. There are oodles of design choices to pick from in the Brushstroke App! I use AVERY products, which offers a bazoodle load of designs and sizes, including posters, business cards and any type of notecard! Follow the easy instructions and feed the card stock of choice into the printer and Whalla, a notecard, postcard, whatever card you want! You can use their graphics and add text or download your own pictures from your files, adding text or not. Then fold, write and mail! Done!

Color Your World: 120 Days of Crayola: Jungle Green, Laser Lemon and Lavender!

Oh boy! I got a threefer in this photo taken in New Orleans! I loved the tiny cottages, the first of many squeezed into the landscape, and refusing to give up!! There is so much going on in this photo; the planters, the garden, the head on a stick, the flag, the bench, the lavender trash bin, the birdhouse and a big fat crow! Do you see the orange painted cement blocks in the street at the front? That is to mark the owners parking spot! The color for today is Jungle Green, but the photo also had tomorrow’s color, Laser Lemon and then I saw it had a Lavender too, Saturday’s color! I’ll call it my Jungle Laser Lavender Photo! New Orleans is all about Color! If you haven’t been to this beautiful city, it is like nowhere else! So much history, so much fun, so much music, so much food and so much COLOR!

Jungle Green has been included in Crayola assortment since 1990. It is known as Land of the Free in the “State Crayon Collection.”

Laser Lemon is a fluorescent color originally known as Chartreuse from 1972 to 1990. It is also known as Chevaulin Chartreuse, found only in the special “Scarlet Pimpernel” set.
