My Woodland Garden at End of the Month: April
I love hostas and my woodland garden is coming into bloom very nicely! The rhododendrons are just beginning to bud! I’ve yet to get the mulch down! The Helleborus are still blooming and will continue through most of the year. Now if I could just find something to do with the gum balls from the sweet gum trees I would be a millionaire! Wonderful photos of your garden. Your hostas are looking very healthy – do you have any problem with slugs or snails? What a difference between your climbing hydrangea and mine! I have one on the West side of the house in very poor soil which is smothered in roots from big trees. It looks pretty against the white wall but doesn’t thicken out and only produces one or two flowers. I do try to keep it watered and fed, but obviously not enough.
Annette, I have never seen a slug or snail where I live. Maybe it’s too hot for them? It has been in the 80’s here already and gets in the 100’s almost everyday in the summer. My climbing hydrangea is right behind the fountain, so it gets wet and sprayed on when the fountain is turned on. I don’t have the fountain on yet. Right now the carpenters are here pulling off my porches and replacing the wood! What a mess I have! When they are gone I will post my Cottage Garden. I hope I can get the trellises in the front garden back on the cottage with the vines intact!
Wow …. Just …. wow. I’ve long had a distaste for hostas. I can’t give you a reason for that, but I’ve recently been looking at them in a new light (unfortunately here it is a real full-scale war against the gastropods!) and am thinking of getting a couple for some shady areas. You might have inspired me! 😉
