Photography 101: Day 10, Mystery

This picture is a mystery to me! It was taken at Christmas on the streets of Paris. That tree was not white! However, it must have had some kind of lighting on it. My first reaction, when I saw the picture, was to delete it, but the more I looked at it the more I liked it! It was taken on my cellphone, because it was pouring and I didn’t want to take out my camera. Enjoy!

I read and understand Dutch fine, and speak it to a sufficient level. French less so, German not at all

I was trying to remember what core language our hosts in Bruge spoke. They spoke English, but that was not their native language. People closest to France speak French and those close to the Netherlands speak Dutch right? Is there another language I’m not thinking of? Curious minds want to know.

Bruges is in the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium, Cady. Maybe you are thinking of Flemish being a different language. Flemish is the Dutch that they speak in Flanders. It’s 95% the same as Dutch spoken in the Netherlands, but with a different accent. Mind you, there is another official language of Belgium: German! It’s spoken right over in the east, not surprisingly by the German border.
Complicated? Confused? You ain’t heard nothing yet. Check this out for some serious confusion:

Very interesting read! No wonder I was confused. I didn’t realize there was a Flemish language. I think our hosts spoke Flemish with a German accent.
