About
I have been traveling extensively for over twenty years and have learned a lot along the way! My suggestions for lodging, restaurants, activities, etc. are my own. I am not paid by anyone to offer a review. If I like a place I will tell you. Great travels to you!
1. I am a retired registered nurse. I worked for Flying Nurses……and that’s when I got the traveling bug. During my career I rotated to a critical care hospital in a different location every thirteen weeks with Flying Nurses.
2. My husband is a Naval Aviator and traveled the world. (He retired from the USMC after 24 years) We both love going to new places and old places too for that matter!
3. When we retired I got to pick wherever I wanted to live. I picked North Carolina so I would never have to shovel snow again.
4. I love cappuccino, mocha, espresso or plain ol’ black coffee any time of the day or night. (A holdover from my nursing days)
5. I think Akita’s are beautiful, loving and smart.
6. I love British mysteries, especially historical mysteries.
7. I am a gadget freak. I am the queen of kitchen gadgets and anything techie.
8. I like to learn something everyday. The more challenging it is the better I like it.
9. I am passionate about foreign language study, and study EVERYDAY. I am possessed!
10. I like to poke around in the garden and pull weeds.
11. I like to cook, but I am a meat and potatoes kinda cook. (Or casserole)
12. My camera is with me wherever I go. I am always in the improving, editing, creating mode.

Klees, thank you for the nomination for the Liebster Award. I was unsure just how many followers I did have and when I looked it up there were 377! So I would not qualify for this award, but I am very honored that you thought to nominate me! I have also corrected my gravatar, I didn’t realize I had two and one was not linked to a thing! That should work fine on the Travelers Blog site. I am learning so much everyday I just have to look in the right places!
No worries! I thought I had done some research into the number of followers, but I must have overlooked that.
Hi there, just flew on over to take a peek at your blog and to thank you for bestowing a follow on my own. It’s great to have you on board and if you have any suggestions or requests just let me know, Have fun, MM 🍀
[…] post as it also marks my first ever guest post! The eponymous travelling lady behind the fabulous The Travel Lady In Her Shoes kindly agreed to do a bit of a write-up regarding her journey of discovering her family history […]
Okay, rhetorical question: Why have I not followed you?? I thought I had, but after you left your comment today, I “said to myself, “why isn’t CadyLuck appearing in my reader?” And so I checked. Wow. As my daughter says “my bad”! I have quickly corrected the situation and am now most definitely on board! 🙂
All that being said, I love your about page.I, too, am a queen of kitchen gadgets, telling myself they will help me to cook. Alas, not so. I’m creative in every other aspect of my life, but I definitely missed out on the cooking gene, try as I might 😦 And I love that you love learning languages. What do you study? I took up relearning French about a year ago, but sadly have not devoted much time to it in the past six months.
I study French everyday!!! And I speak Italian. DUOLINGO, LOVE IT, and I have studied with lots of programs, but stick with this one on a daily basis!
Will definitely look this up! Thanks 🙂
I thought you were following me at one time!!!! Thanks for following me again!!!!
Me too! Maybe it was a glitch with WP?? So glad you stopped in today, otherwise I would have gone on not knowing!
Love your blog! Your pics are fab too!
Hey there Newbie Spikey!
(for your info, a Spikey is the term for folk who are part of the clan known to be followers of Uncle Spike 🙂
Thank you… I really appreciate that as I for one, know how many interesting and entertaining blogs are out there.
Blogging since June 2013, my aim is to deliver an eclectic offering of posts, from my ‘point n shoot’ attempts at basic photography, to the sharing of my travel adventures over the decades, as well as day to day happenings here on the farm. Oh, plus a few observations, opinions and lighter-hearted stuff thrown in for good measure.
I normally keep to a couple of posts a day, maybe 3-4 at weekends if I have something special to share. But if you are at a loose end one day, maybe you’ll enjoy trawling through some of my older stuff too. I have added plenty of categories to help in said digging process.
Thanks again and hope you have a great day…
UNCLE SPIKE
Hi, I am signing up to follow you as I see we have lots and lots of things in common. Only, I live in Australia in the sub tropics. I look forward to reading your stories Lyn
Lyn, I am following your blog as well! Yes, I love Italy and try to go as often as I can! I have never been down under, and I realize I am missing a great deal! If there was only a way to get there in 10 hours or less! Ha Ha! Can’t wait to read all your posts! Hope to hear from you again! CadyLuck
Thanks Cadyluck. 10 hours is long time to be flying but 30 hours is awful. That is how long it takes me to fly to Italy. I look forward to your posts Lyn
Totally understand the want to not have to shovel snow again! We don’t get it very often in the UK, but when we do the whole place just shuts down and it’s such a nightmare. I’m also a fellow lover of Duolingo! (saw you mention it in a previous comment 🙂 )
Becky, we have sooooooo much in common! What language are you studying? I went over a year and never missed a day. Then when we were in Canada, there was a plurp of some kind and they did not get my lesson for a day and I started all over. I am on Lesson 23 in French. LOVE IT!
Im trying to do Spanish and German, but find I get my words mixed up so concentrating more on Spanish at the mo…I’m definitely a Duolingo fan!
Becky, I tried learning/practicing two languages at a time too on Duolingo. I must not be very smart because I would start off in one language and end in another! I was doing Italian and French. Now I am just concentrating on the French, because I spend more time in Quebec City, one of my absolute favorites!
Go Navy! My husband was a sub/nuke guy.
Great to find your blog. Glad to find another traveller and photographer. Have you ever been to Greece? Great photos by the way.
GM, may I call you that? Greece is one of the places I have yet to visit! But, I am following you and I have a feeling that after reading your posts Greece will be going to the top of the bucket list! I have to live to be 210 to do everything I want to do! I have wanted to go to the Island where Mary was, but something always gets bumped ahead, that and the fact that we have never cruised! We’ve really have wanted to get out and about driving and walking, (while we still can, ha ha) and are saving the cruises for the last. It seems the easiest way to see Greece, since there is so much to see. Am I wrong about that and should I be looking at it in another mind set?
Hello Cady. I see you have just left a comment on my blog, for which I thank you. I see I am also already following you, if I hadn’t been I would definitely be clicking that follow button again! I am doing the Bootcamp Commenting thingy this week, maybe you are too – today we have to find three new blogs and tell a personal story in the comments. So bad luck, you are one of my recipients, despite the fact you are not a completely new blog to me, so I guess I am breaking the rules, not for the first time! I just spent ages commenting on someones blog – a blog I would never normally follow, so forgive me for what I am about to say, but she was a bit religious – no, very religious, writing about religion, incorporating it in art, thinking of it all day long. oh God sorry if you are like this too, just switch off now, anyway, I have no objection to people doing religion, I just don’t want to do it, ok.
Anyway I wrote this long rambling comment to her, then when I tried to send, the comments box wouldn’t work, grrrr! So I gave up. Then I wrote my begging letter on the Commons and up you popped! So that’s another half hour wasted! I see you are doing the Crayola colour a day photograph thingie too – how sad are we, to spend half our day finding photos which match a particular colour! But we must love it or we wouldn’t do it. Byeee!
Georgie, Yes I am doing the Bootcamp as well. I too have trouble at times with following blogs. I only follow the ones that interest me, I don’t follow just to follow! I have trouble relating to many of the blogs as well. I am doing the Color Your World Challenge because I don’t travel all year long and I like to look back at the different pictures I have taken. I think our society is geared to quick and easy, but I like to write about what interests me. Don’t you? I think so.
Lovely intro page. It looks like you have led a diverse and rich life that has taken you to many corners of the globe. You had me laughing at ‘never have to shovel snow again’! 😀 Will definitely have to come back to read some more 🙂
Thanks for stopping by Diya!
My pleasure! 🙂
Diya, Growing up where the snow piled high day after day and then turned grey, dirty and disgusting is not my idea of a fun time. So if you are lucky enough to get to pick where you live it is good idea to look over all the options. Weather and being close to an airport were two biggies for me!
I’ve never in my entire life seen real snow up close. On a mountain top in the distance? Sure. On a fake ski slope in a Dubai mall? Sure. But not the real thing. So to me, snow is a novelty 🙂 I can imagine though that the clean up after it snows would be a nightmare 🙂
And I have never been to the Middle East!
You should visit some time 🙂 Drop me a message if you are ever in the neighborhood 😉
Does that require more than 8 hours of flight time from the US? Ha Ha! That is all I’m good for these days, but thank you for the invite!
Sadly I don’t think that would be possible with today’s flight times. But layovers may make it possible someday 🙂
I’m guessing an Akita is a dog? And what languages are you learning? Have you ever been to England? If not, what do you think England is like, in three sentences?
Yep an Akita is a dog, a big dog. I went to school in Italy to learn Italian, which I speak very basically. I study French every day and according to the program I am 58 % fluent. I go to England every year, this year I am going twice!
Thanks so much for following ZimmerBitch. Looking forward to reading more of your blog. Cheers, Su.
Really glad that I stumbled upon your blog today – I too am a lifelong learner, looking for something new to learn about every day! Doesn’t it make life more enjoyable?!! I look forward to following your posts in the future. Best wishes, Susan
Oh I certainly learn something new everyday and I focus on what I enjoy! How did you stumble upon me Susan? Enquiring mind would like to know! Are you studying something specific?
I’m always looking for blogs that talk about travel experiences – I love to travel and dream about travel, and I enjoy reading about other people’s adventures as well. In terms of learning, I have a Ph.D. in history and a JD degree, and I teach in a law school. I think that teachers have to be learners first. In my spare time, I look for new things to learn, to ways to grow. That’s why I found your “about” page so compelling!
Well good for you and all your success. (hard work) My working days are over, well for pay anyway! I love to travel now and improve my photography skills. Thank you for taking a peek at my blog! I hope to hear from you again! If you have any questions about travel just ask!
